Kobuk Valley Jade Co. was started in 1968 in Kotzebue, AK, which is located thirty miles above the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Jade boulders were purchased from an Alaskan who had a claim at Jade Mountain, in the Kobuk Valley, and were then cut into slabs for sale to tourists that were starting to visit the Arctic region at that time.
Over the years, the demand for jewelry increased and Kobuk Valley Jade Co. started selling jewelry items as well as the unique items made of jade such as bookends. The store size was expanded which included a shop for customers to view the jade boulders being cut. Tourists from all over the world visited by cruise ship, bus, planes and motor homes during the summer season, as well as recent winter visitors traveling by air and enjoy purchasing Alaskan souvenirs to take home to family and friends.
We moved our business from Kotzebue, AK to Girdwood, AK in the mid 1970’s where it was located until July of 2021. We are excited to have moved to just north east of Soldotna in the Fall of 2021 where we are now located on the corner of Beacon Hill and the Sterling Hwy., allowing us to expand our jade manufacturing and add distinctive gift items that will appeal to both visitors and locals alike year round. Our new 3,000 square foot retail space will allow us to continue to sell our certified “Made In Alaska” jade products, unique functional household and jewelry items along with T-shirts, paper goods, ceramics, toys, knives, hats, books and unique ivory and baleen estate pieces. Please stop by and check out our diverse gift lines!
